Abington Summer Concerts: History

In their 21st season, the Abington Summer Concerts Series offers free summer Sunday concerts starting early July through August
from 6-8 pm.
The concerts are held in Abington, MA at the Catherine and Joseph Nisby Bandstand.

The series dates back to the completion of the Millennium Memorial Complex, which includes Reilly Field and the Nisby Bandstand.
What started as three small concerts on the bandstand lawn in 2005 has consistently grown in the subsequent years.
The concerts have been funded over the years by local resident and business donations and grants.

Abington Community Band: History

The Abington Community Band was the brain child of AHS music directors Michael Smith and Joyce Harrington.
In 1997, the ACB played their first summer concert outdoors in a corner of the high school up against the brick walls. This first band consisted of former music students and other community members from all walks of life who wanted to play their instruments again, and this is just as true today.
After attending this concert a few folks in the audience and Nancy Reid decided the ACB needed a proper place to perform their concerts and formed a committee to investigate.
After joining forces with the 2000 for 2000 Committee the bandstand finally became a reality and the ACB performed its first concert in May of 2005.
